There is absolutely no minimum balance requirement for a Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) account. It is designed as a Basic Savings Bank Deposit (BSBD) account.
An overdraft facility of up to ₹10,000 is available to one account per household (preferably the primary female member) after 6 months of satisfactory account operation. Up to ₹2,000 is available without any strict conditions. The upper age limit for this facility is 65 years.
All PMJDY account holders get a free RuPay debit card. For accounts opened after August 28, 2018, the inbuilt accidental insurance cover is ₹2 Lakh (₹1 Lakh for accounts opened prior). To claim the insurance, the RuPay card must have been used for a successful financial or non-financial transaction at least once in the 90 days preceding the accident.
